  • Wow, sorry it has been so long since I posted.  I have started a facebook....jen smith, if you want to look it up.  I try to check everything every day, but with two kids sometimes that doesn't work (as all of you mamas know).  Yesterday, for example, my younger kiddo decided that long naps were bogus and he wanted to just sleep an hour at a time.  So I would get him down for a nap, then start something and have to stop cause he woke up.  I didn't get dishes done, so they are stacked sky high in the kitchen and we have no cups, silverware (except for forks) etc.  Just so you don't think I'm too horrible about doing dishes, we only keep out a set of four so that we don't go too long without doing dishes...neither Jacob nor I am any good at remembering to do dishes regularly...although I'm getting better.

Last night, josiah started coming down with a nasty cough/cold.  He was up a lot until we remembered that we can give him medicine.  :)  So we gave him some guifenisen...(don't know how to spell that.) and some tylenol and he slept six hours, then we gave him some more, then he slept another two and a half....so hopefully he's feeling better.  He doesn't cough when he's up, just when he lays down, so I'll dose him up before nap time and hopefully he can sleep then too.

Joash was up at least once an hour till two, then he finally slept till four ate, then didn't want to sleep again, so I was up till five with him...then Josiah was up at six thirty, then Joash at seven thirty, then Josiah at nine....so not much sleep last night.

In general though, Josiah has been doing very well with sleeping, and Joash had gotten to where he slept for seven or eight hours, ate, then back to sleep for a few more hours, usually getting up for the day around seven thirty.  He naps three or four times during the day, a short nap early (nine or so) a longer nap around eleven/twelve, and two short naps in the afternoon/evening.  Josiah naps at one thirty for two or three hours, so I do get some things done generally, just not yesterday.

I am pretty much healed from birth/pregnancy things, I just can't seem to get enough sleep.  Jacob and I are coming down with another cold, we just finished up with one a couple weeks ago.  Jacob is doing alright.  He cut his thumb on a bucket (the same thumb that he almost cut off two years ago, and on the exact same spot on that thumb).  But it's not serious, so it's just wierd that he cut the exact same spot.

Josiah has started the clumsy stage of life...his legs can testify to it.  He has scrapes and bruises all up and down his legs.  He likes to pick at the scabs, and we're trying to break him of it.  He keeps picking, then says it hurts.  :)  Can't get him to understand that DUH that's what happens when you pick at them.

    I think that's it.

  • Well, it's been over a month since I posted, and with good reason.  For one, I am now a mother of two, and they don't seem to like to sleep at the same time, nor does younger child seem to enjoy sitting in his swing, in his vibrating chair, or anywhere else but in someone's arms...since I'm in here all day, that's me!  So being on the computer much isn't an option.

Josiah is now potty training and actually was successful yesterday, so that was cool.  Up to that point he'd sit there but didn't know what we wanted.  He's also now sleeping in his toddler bed.  Which is new just since thursday.

Joash is sleeping three hours at a time at night, starting around eleven or twelve (except for last night when he didn't fall asleep for good till two, then he wanted to play at five thirty and didn't fall back asleep till seven thirty).  He's growing.  We started him in cloth diapers, which jumped him into 3-6 month clothes.  But that is ok.  I was running out of 0-3 clothes that worked anyhow.  :)

jacob is getting the camp ready for summer, plus reviewing resumes for summer helper, since the job of choosing a summer helper just got dumped in his lap this week.  We hopefully will have someone in time for summer camps starting the eighteenth of June.

I am tired, but have gotten into a sort of routine with the kids so that's nice.

I need to go, the older kiddo is calling.

  • My three boys are all together here.  Josiah is checking out Joash's socks.
  • Easter Surprise

Well, We had a nice Easter surprise.  Joash David Ngia decided since we had plans for Easter day (a picnic after church with Josiah's first Easter egg hunt) he would make his appearance that day.  My water broke at three am, we left by three thirty, I had a pretty easy labor after they got the epidural for me at eight thirty.  delivery was easy too.  (before the epidural I think I only squeezed the life out of two or three of Jacob's fingers with the contractions....at least, they seemed to make him drive faster each time I had one.  I had them every three minutes all the way to the hospital.)  Joash David Ngia, weighed in at 8 pounds 15.4 ounces, measured 20 3/4 inches and had a 14 1/2 cm head.  He did very well all that day and they sent us home the next day...though the doctor didn't get there till eight pm to release us cause she got held up in the office all day.  :(  So we got home around ten and got Josiah to bed and got to bed ourselves later.

Then, friday, mom and dad hocking, who have been here helping us, decided to go to a conference in goldendale for the weekend.  That evening, Joash was breathing funny, so we called the doctor's after hours number and the on call doctor told us to take him to the er.  It turned out the breathing wasn't bad, just funny sounding, but it was good we went in cause his bilirubin was very high.  They wanted us to get a bili blanket to use at home, but since it was eleven thirty pm at this point, we couldn't get it till the next day, and they were just going to send us home...until they found out we lived an hour away, then the doctor changed his mind and admitted us.  Joash spent the night under the lights and we spent the night getting as much sleep as we could.  (Joash kept wanting to eat, but he would fall asleep after just a few minutes of eating because of the bilirubin.)  By nine thirty am, he was eating much better, more like his feedings of a few days before.  My parents came back early from the conference and took Josiah from the friend we had left him with the night before (kids aren't allowed to stay in the hospital overnight unless they are patients.) and took him up to camp to be there if the group needed anything.  The doctor came by shortly afterwards and said he would release us that evening by around six, but he wanted Joash under the lights a bit longer.  His numbers were already much lower (from 17 the night before to 12 1/2 that morning).  Anyhow, they didn't release us till six forty five, so we got home around eight, just before Josiah's shower and going to bed.  We ate supper, got Joash to sleep and hit the sack.

So very interesting week so far.  :)  But baby is here and he is healthy.  Thanks to all who prayed.

  • Well, thirty eight weeks, and now that the baby is allowed to come, it refuses.  :)  Even though I am getting up and moving around a lot, the contractions have dwindled a lot....so pray for patience and for frustration to be at a minimum.
